The Theme – Vital to the Bedroom

The Theme – Vital to the Bedroom

What theme does your bedroom have? Amazingly most people don’t base their bedroom around a theme, preferring instead to let it grow organically with what ever catches their eye. Whilst this might sound fine in theory it is far from the best method of designing a bedroom.

Designers, interior decorators, know the importance of a theme. Watch any interior decorating TV show and you will see that they first consider the theme that they are going for before deciding anything else. This is because the theme dictates everything else.

Deciding a theme

So how then do you go about deciding on a theme to use?

There are 4 aspects that you need to consider when choosing a theme.

1.Functionality. Remember you are going to be using your room, and you know how you use it. So take that into account when deciding a theme. For example it is no good deciding a minimalist theme with no bookcases if you are going to want to be reading a lot in your bedroom.

Function includes such things as the size of the bed, the storage space, how long lasting furniture needs to be and much more.

2.Style. Do you like the look that is associated with that theme? For example with country bedroom furniture it is based around solid, wooden furniture. It is no good selecting that look if it isn’t something that you like.

3.Availability. You need to be able to find what you want, choosing a theme of peacock feathers is not exactly viable if you want furniture made from it!

4.Price. Much as we may hate it, money dictates almost everything and the theme of the bedroom is no different. Can you afford the furniture that comes in this style or theme?
