From Little Princess to a Tween With a Personality – Decorating Your Kid’s Bedroom on a Budget

Remember when you brought your little sweet pea home from the hospital? she was the first girl born on either side of the family in what seemed like ages. Your grandparents doted on her, and for a time, she was the youngest of all the cousins and grandchildren. she was such a princess; you even named her Sarah. It seemed perfect that you had the forethought to decorate her nursery like a fairytale castle.

Sarah loved having a pink room. she played with dolls, enjoyed playing dress up and for each birthday she alternated which Disney Princess character she was. Of course you really hoped she would stay that adorable little girl forever, but she had to grow up sooner or later, didn’t she? still sweet, Sarah never complains about Repunzel adorning one wall and Cinderella on another, but deep inside you both know that it’s time to give her room a makeover. With money being tighter today than it was when she was a baby, you are hoping that you can give her the room she wants without breaking the bank. You can

Paint Makes a Dramatic Difference

It’s quite amazing how just painting the walls a darker, more mature color such as violet or rose, can have a dramatic effect on a room. and the best part about paint is that it’s not that expensive and yet it lasts for years. seeing the walls turn from pink to a darker color will also have a dramatic effect on Sarah’s personality. Suddenly the fabric bubble letters that spell out her name don’t seem as juvenile as they once did.

Now that the room looks drastically different, it’s time to tackle the furniture. first check with any of your family members to see if anyone is planning to upgrade their existing dresser, desk or other pieces and can give them to you. It will cost less to strip and stain them than it will to buy Sarah all new furniture. With all the money you have saved, you can buy your daughter a good quality chair to go with the desk, which encourages her to study.

Infuse With her Personality

The last step in your daughter’s room makeover is to add bits of flair that make it clear whose room it is. Maybe she wants framed posters of the Jonas Brothers, the Nutcracker (she is still a princess after all) and that one you took of her snowboarding on vacation the year before. Giving her all three won’t cost too much and how cool would that be for her to own a 24 x 36 action photo of herself alongside her favorite ballet and her favorite rock stars?
